Schröder Reference

OMA is proud to offer the opportunity, for our turntable and plinth customers,  to acquire the finest tonearm available anywhere in the world today, the Schröder Reference and Reference SQ. The Schröder arm stands apart from everything else in its unrivaled sonic presentation, its unique, patented bearing mechanism, and its sheer beauty of design and craftsmanship. Put simply, there is nothing like the Schröder, at any price.

Each Schröder Reference arm requires a minimum of 40 hours to build, and is made entirely by Mr. Frank Schröder himself, in Berlin, Germany. A trained watchmaker, Schröder has perfected the Reference arm over the course of thirty years of continuous tonearm building, and holds a US and European patents on the string and magnet bearing concept at the heart of the Reference tone arm. All parts of the Reference are machined by Schröder manually, and every arm can be customized for each individual client. The armwand’s effective length range from 8.5” to 12”, and the effective mass from 5 grams to 35 grams, from a wide choice of woods. In short, there is no such thing as a stock Schroeder Reference, or the Reference SQ, which adds further refinements. Orders should be placed a minimum of 18 months in advance. The queue for the Schröder tonearms (and its dearth on the second hand market) is perhaps the best indication of the esteem in which it is held by discerning audiophiles.

We can help you select the right wood type, length, and mass for your Schröder Reference, and of course install and set up your new Schröder arm. Please contact us for more details on pricing, and current lead times for orders.

TA-1 and TA-1L

The new TA-1 and TA-1L tonearms, designed by Frank Schröder and manufactured by Artemis Labs in California is a first in many regards.

Shown here is the new TA-1L (for Long) tonearm, which is 282mm.

Previously customers interested in purchasing a Schroeder tonearm had to wait a considerable time as all arms were handmade by Frank Schröder himself. The TA-1 is a brand new design, featuring hybrid ceramic bearings of unprecedented low friction (2mg vertical, 3.5mg horizontal- the lowest measured of any traditional bearing arm.) With internal magnetic damping in the horizontal plane, the TA-1 has a calibrated center post to allow repeatable adjustment of VTA, adjustable azimuth and different headshell plates to allow adjustment of effective mass to couple with a wide range of cartridges. The arm wand is made of Kingwood and highly polished and oil finished by hand.
